International Women’s Day (IWD) provides an opportunity to discuss how everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender-balanced world. IWD is for celebrating the achievements of women and calling for gender parity.
Around the world, there are activities ranging from small grassroots gatherings and local celebrations to large-scale events and press conferences. People everywhere are delivering exciting and engaging speeches and presentations that reinforce a commitment to women’s equality and rally action and awareness-raising. Closer to home in Calgary, there are events celebrating and recognizing women in our community.
International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Did you know the day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland? Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom’s Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women’s equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively – everywhere. The focus is on making the world a better place.

Continuing Need For A More Progressive Mindset
There is a continuing need worldwide for more progressive mindsets and inclusive behaviours to be forged when it comes to gender parity. There are many examples of gender bias that impact women being successful in our community. We each play a role in improving this in our own behaviour and how we support women to be successful at home, in the community, and in the workplace. Women represent ½ of the world population. If we support women to contribute to all aspects of life, there is an opportunity for great economic growth and more sustainability within families.
Collectively, everyone everywhere can strive for women’s equality and continue to make positive gains. This will create value in the family unit, the community, and the world in general. Women bring diversity and a different perspective, all contributing value. We each can make a commitment to gender parity in our personal and business interactions every day.
Alberta Storage Place is committed to creating a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Support IWD 2022 Break the Bias. Drop by or give us a call and we are happy to assist you. We can talk storage all day long!
